September is here. What does that mean? Well just 3 short years ago I had no idea either. I have a much better picture of what it means now after walking through the Childhood Cancer world and I would like to share it with you.
It means this month we as a family focus on how we can raise better funding, and support all those facing the beast of childhood cancer. It means I think and dwell on the day our world changed forever, and will never be the same. It means it’s time to take a stand and educate parents on knowing the signs to early detection (see my blog post of how we found our our daughter had Leukemia) as so many truly believe it won’t be them, and I pray to God it never is. It’s the month you can find an avenue to support and show love to someone who’s giving their all for their everything. It’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. And I hate that it even exists, yet I am so thankful for the amazing organizations below who came alongside of us and helped us when we were in a dark place.
If you want to help a childhood cancer family I would like to GREATLY encourage you to give whatever amount you can to one of the organizations below that sing to your heart. Any amount you can give to the cause will help those in their fight. 💛
KICKcancER- https://kickcancermovement.org/ This non-profit organization was started by a cancer mom, in the fight to save her son Kicker’s life. Their mission is to help families with cancer improve well-being and quality of life through nutritional education, classes, free kits to help the body detox, and essential oils to support side effects of chemo. This kit helped Emmy TREMENDOUSLY during treatment, still today, and into the future. Their education has been invaluable to us and our whole family. Their mission is beautiful and SO needed in the cancer world!
BigLove Cancer Care- https://biglovecancercare.org/ This non-profit organization was also started by a cancer mom in the fight to save her daughter Brooke’s life. They provide support and care to cancer families in the hospital. Initially upon Emmy’s diagnosis I remember a lady coming in and handing me a piece of paper and saying “Write down everything you need or want at the grocery store, and all of Emmy’s favorite things.” The next day they arrived with bag loads of her favorite things, and all our favorite snacks along with toiletries for our hospital stay. They also come around daily with a toy cart for kiddos to pick out something new and fun to help pass the time. These are just a FEW of the amazing things this organization does. They love so BIG and so WELL!
Snowdrop Foundation- http://snowdropfoundation.org/ Born out of Chelsea’s cancer story having a lifetime impact on a grown man who watched her fight. Made up of marathon runners who run to the ends of the earth (literally— the founder is getting ready to run across Alaska on the Dalton Highway in the dead of winter with a backpack filled with names of warrior kids) to raise money for childhood cancer awareness, research, and college scholarships to cancer survivors.
Fit Like a CK (Cancer Kid) Mother- https://www.fitlikeackmother.org/ A non-profit organization that provides FREE online meditation, fitness, and self care to mom’s of little warriors. As a care taker you give your all, studies have shown there is a tremendous amount of weight gain, stress, and detrimental effects to the care takers of these precious kiddos. This beautiful group was born out an amazing woman’s heart named Sarah, who has seen cancer mom’s struggle in caring for them self when giving their all to their kids, and she decided to use her time and talents to bless others by creating an amazing platform for moms to take a quick break, catch their breath, work on relieving stress, and speak life into them.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand- https://www.alexslemonade.org/ This organization is deep into funding cutting edge research, while supporting families in the fight. Kids all over the world selling Lemonade one cup at a time and raising money for awareness and a CURE!!!!
